Caelan Doris Included in Ireland Selection While Joe McCarthy Omitted
Newly reappointed manager the Ireland coach has included captain Caelan Doris in his Ireland roster for the autumn matches, but lock McCarthy misses out.
The captain, who has not played since having a shoulder operation in early May, has come back to provincial training, but it remains unclear if he will be ready to play against the All Blacks in Chicago on November 1.
Lock Joe McCarthy, however, was not considered after failing to recover from the foot issue he sustained during the first Lions match against the Wallabies in the summer.
Northern province player Izuchukwu and Munster winger Nash also miss out due to fitness concerns, and number 15 Hugo Keenan had already been ruled out after having hip surgery after the Lions tour.
Dublin province forward McCarthy - the brother of Joe - is the only uncapped player in the 34-player group, however the Irish Rugby Football Union says new provincial pair Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and previously capped Connacht winger Shayne Bolton will travel to Chicago as "reserves".
After playing the All Blacks at Soldier Field in a repeat of their 2016 encounter, Ireland will play Japan, Australia and world title holders South Africa in the Irish capital.
"There's an exciting look to the panel and it's a chance for the veteran members and for those who made their debuts on the summer tour to the Lelos and Portugal," said Farrell, who returns to Ireland duty after a break to coach the Lions tour to the southern hemisphere.
In a mostly familiar-looking selection, the Dublin club's Sam Prendergast and the southern club's Crowley will again compete for the first-choice fly-half position. The fly-half role is remains available, with Prendergast and Crowley set to face off for the first occasion in the upcoming United Rugby Championship match at the Dublin venue.
Ciaran Frawley is the additional number 10 selected as Farrell opting against selecting Leinster's Byrne.
At scrum-half, the Ireland boss has picked Lions tourist Jamison Gibson-Park and Casey, who led Ireland to the summer international wins over the Lelos and the Lobos. Additionally, there is a return for the western province's Blade, who is preferred to teammate Murphy.
Robbie Henshaw, Aki, Ringrose and McCloskey represent an experienced cohort of centre choices. Jamie Osborne is another option in the midfield, but the 23-year-old is also a leading candidate to cover for Keenan at full-back.
Wingers Lowe, Hansen, O'Brien and Jacob Stockdale are named. O'Brien shone on his national team debut over the summer with two tries apiece in the victories over Georgia and Portugal.
Paddy McCarthy is the sole fresh addition in the Irish pack. The front rower has started a couple of Leinster's three United Rugby Championship matches so far and featured in Ireland A's defeat by the English in Bristol previously.
McCarthy was included in caretaker coach O'Connell's summer selection, yet did not earn a cap.
Munster lock Ahern, who received his first two caps in those matches, is kept in the squad, while experienced Ulster lock Henderson returns after missing the summer tour.
Jack Conan, who played in each of the Lions Tests over the summer, is set to deputise for the captain if the captain fails to recover fitness in time to face New Zealand.
The national team will assemble in Dublin on the start of the week before traveling to the US on Tuesday.
